Mandarin Music Spotlight

teresa-teng

Teresa Teng (Dèng Lìjūn / 鄧麗君 / 邓丽君), born May 8th, 1953, is one of the most famous singers to come from Taiwan. Her music was popular across countries and remains so even today. In particular, her song 月亮代表我的心 is considered a classic with some even saying that Chinese all over the world know it.Why choose Teresa Teng?

There are few singers who are as long lasting and beloved and Teresa Teng whose music continues to appeal to people of varying generations and nationalities. Her voice is one of my favourites and some of her songs I would happily listen to for eternity. Her soft, gentle voice is at times whisper-like. If looking for soothing, relaxing songs there are few artists, in my opinion, better to turn to than her.

Teresa Teng has also sung in numerous languages which frequent readers of this blog will know almost guarantees an article. The languages in which she sings are Mandarin Chinese, Hokkien, Cantonese, Indonesian, Japanese and English. I would have covered her sooner had I not been waiting for the Mid-Autumn Festival which I always connect to her arguably best loved song, 月亮代表我的心.

The Moon Represents My Heart
